On Wednesday the 23rd of April 2025 at 20h, Stellar Vector will organize HWSec101, in which we’ll introduce you in the world of hardware security.

You will get some info on the field of hardware security from experts from COSIC and then you’ll be able to dive in and get some practical experience with the introduced attacks on a real hardware device. There will be challenges for beginners and also some extra tasks for more experienced participants.

On Tuesday the 5th of November 2024 at 18h30 Stellar Vector will organize CTF101, our annual start-to-hack event.

We will introduce the concept of CTFs and give an introduction to the team. After this, some of our current members will guide you step by step through some custom challenges. No worries if you have more experience, there will also be slightly more difficult challenges for you to try.

You don’t need any experience in CTFs/software security/hacking in order to participate, we are all there to learn! Joining is free, but registration is required. Please do so using this form.

High time for some more hacking!

In two weeks, on Thursday the 2nd of May, we will host a Hack The Box Belgium Meetup at our campus. These meetups, organized by three cybersecurity experts from Easi, are organized around once every month and are great resources to learn more about practical cybersecurity. Two of the organizers will talk about windows security and guide you through hacking two windows machines May 2nd.

PWN101

Stellar Vector, the CTF team at DistriNet/KU Leuven, is organizing PWN101, a learning-event in where you will learn the basics of pwning (aka binary exploitation).

Join us on the 23rd of February 2023 at 18h30 in the foyer of Computer Science (Celestijnenlaan 200A). The presentation will start around 19h in aula 00.225 (Auditorium Duval).

Speakers:

Joris Ignoul is a Cybersecurity Consultant at Easi. He is a recent graduate from our Master of Computer Science, during which he joined the CTF participations of our predecessor HacknamStyle. His main interest in CTFs is in the binary exploitation category.
Robin Jadoul is a PhD candidate at COSIC. He is an experienced CTF player and is a member of 0rganizers, the leading CTF team in the world. One of his specializations is binary exploitation.

On Monday the 3rd of October 2022 Stellar Vector will organize a starting event called CTF101 from 18h until 21h in 200A 00.144 (registration is mandatory).

We will introduce the concept of CTFs (essentially solving mostly security-related challenges) and give an introduction to the team. After this, some of our current members will guide you through some challenges that have been previously solved during a CTF we participated in.

You don’t need any experience in CTFs/software security/hacking in order to participate, we are all there to learn! We ask you to register upfront if you are going to join. Please do so using this form.

A decade and a half of CTFs

Stellar Vector is the reboot of HacknamStyle, which was itself the reboot of a CTF team by the name of The Electronic Mayhem. In short, we have been participating in CTFs for well over a decade.

The team is associated with KU Leuven and powered by the DistriNet research group, but membership is not limited to researchers or even to students.

Who can join

Everyone is welcome: bachelor, master and PhD students, alumni, and any hacking aficionado located in Belgium, regardless of level of expertise or experience. You do not need to be good at this yet.
